WRC would like to thank all the people who helped make this series possible - Judges, writers, scorers, stewards, sponsors (Morgan Equine of LLandeilo & Equestrian and Country Leisure of Top Barn, Holt, Worcester)
, Gracelands EC and not forgetting the competitors.
But most of all they would like to thank the Show Secretary and Organiser, Suzi D-O, without which NONE of this would have happened.

Area 18 Winter Dressage - 27 th Feb, Hartpury
Sadly Wyvern could only present a 3-man team since a 4th could not be found in time. Two of the horses were
adversely affected by the spooky arena so their riders felt they could have done better, but not a bad result, even so.
Karen Richardson went very well and was 2nd in her arena with 69.1%
Laura Teague was 16th in hers with 63.68%
Suzi Douglas-Osborn was 19th in hers with 64.21%
The team was approximately 15th out of 35 teams
The competition was won by Cheltenham with Bromyard coming second

Mercian Teams Quiz 2009
The Mercian Teams Quiz night took place on 21st October at ‘The Royal Oak’ and, for the first time, Wyvern was able
to field two teams. Last year's champions were there to defend their title (Wizerns - Shirley, Jayne, Caroline & Joy)
whilst an additional team (Winklers - Carole, Catherine, Sandy & Helen) took the total number of teams taking part up to 16.
Great fun and neither team disgraced themselves even though Winklers had convinced themselves they would get the wooden spoon!
Overall Quiz Results:
1st Wyvern Wiverns (117)
2nd Shropshire South Swallows (111.5)
3rd Cropthorne Red (111)
4th Bromyard Hawks (109.5)
5th Worcester Wizards (109)
6th Malvern on a Mission (101)
7th Shropshire South Ringers (100.5)
8th Strictly Shropshire South (98)
9th Vale of Arrow – The Outsiders (96)
10th Bromyard Eagles (95)
11th Wyvern Winklers (92.5)
12th Malvern Magic (90.5)
13th= Cropthorne Orange (86)
13th= Worcester Wolves (86)
15th Malvern Mares (81.5)
16th Bromyard Falcons (65)

Mercian Show and Equitation Jumping - 20th Sept 2009
More local to us than some, this was hosted by Cropthorne and Evesham Vale RC at Cleeve Prior.
The weather really could not have been better and a great day was had by all.
We were able to field a team for both the 2'3" Show jumping and 2'3" Equitation/Style jumping (see note #1 below)
consisting of :-
Karen Nicholls and Scrumpy Jack
Judith Cox and Dillon
Chris Finlay and Molly
Becky Vickers and Bailey
I'm pleased to report that they achieved second place in both classes! The winners had one penalty in show jumping, we had two ...
Becky Vickers also took third place in the individual rankings for the Style jumping.
#1 For anyone who doesn't know (and I didn't), Equitation jumping consists of a salute, a canter on each rein prior
to jumping, a round of jumps and a continuation in canter until completion is indicated. Every element is judged,
a bit like a dressage test.

BRC National Eventing Championships Aston-Le-Walls - 7-9th Aug 2009
We are thrilled to announce that Wyvern RC are now firmly on the map with regard to BRC Eventing.
Laura Teague competed as an individual in an Intermediate section and was placed 3rd with a score of 31.0. This gave her an overall placing across all 5 sections of 12th.
Karen Richardson competed as an individual in a Novice section and was placed 7th with a score of 32.9. This gave her an overall placing across all 5 sections of 32nd.
Both girls deserve our heartiest congratulations - this is a national event and clubs from all over GB were present. For such a small club to have two riders competing is something of which we should be immensely proud.

Mercian Dressage - 12 th July 2009
Hosted by us (Wyvern RC) and held in superb conditions at Gumburn Farm in Sinton Green.
WRC didn't manage to field many competitors but that's often tricky with a small club hosting an event.
Even so, we all had a great day, didn't we!

Mercian Two-Phase - 21 st June 2009
Hosted by Malvern Hills RC and held at Ullingswick in Hereford, on one of the filthiest weekends for months, we managed to put together a Novice team for this event.
Full marks for even turning up (and every team member did) let alone being placed 3rd.
Well done Vanessa Briggs (Cameron), Judith Cox (Dillon), Karen Nicholls (Scumpy Jack) and Becky Vickers (Bailey).
Becky also entered Teasel in the Open Intermediate, since we hadn't managed an Intermediate team - AND WON! Congratulations.

BRC Area SJ & Style Jumping - 14 th May 2009
Congratulations to Vanessa Briggs and Cameron who achieved 2 clears. Unfortunately Vanessa was the only member
able to compete on the day since both Carole Hodgetts & Becky Vickers had to withdraw due to unforseen horse-related circumstances.

Bewdley BC Hunter Trials (Mercian Teams) 3rd May 2009
A lovely course and perfect weather conditions at Pound Green. We had two teams entered:-
2'3" - Judith Cox, Karen Nicholls, Becky Vickers & Sam Tyler
2'9" - Becky Vickers, Susanne Frank & Gemma Whiston.
Everyone got round (and safely), an achievement in itself given the mixture of horse & rider experience!
Competition was fierce so no team placings this time(13 teams in Class 2 and 17 in class 3). Special congratulations to Becky Vickers who achieved individual placings in both classes
- 2nd in 2'3" on Bailey and 3rd in 2'9" on Teasel.
Condolences to Carole Hodgetts (again) who had to withdraw from the 2'9" when 'The Maverick' went lame.
All the more maddening given that he'd done the 2'3" individual class with Eleanor on board and been placed 3rd in the Juniors section!

Open Show Jumping (Mercian Teams) 7th March
For the first fixture of the season we were pleased to be able to field a team in each of the two Mercian classes.
We were well represented, had several clear rounds (some of them at speed!) and nobody had a poor round. However,
competition was pretty fierce, with 12 teams per class and, sadly, neither team was placed.
On a positive note, everyone enjoyed themselves, new friendships were forged and it's the beginning of
the season so there are plenty more opportunities.
Condolences to Carole Hodgetts, Michelle Weston and Helen Harnett who had all signed up to compete then
had to withdraw on medical grounds (principally equestrian).
"Thank you and well done" to Judith Cox, Karen Nicholls, Vanessa Briggs, Julia McDowell and Becky Vickers.
Special thanks to Gemma Whiston who went from Reserve to competing in both teams at very short notice.

Area Winter Dressage Feb 2009
WRC are proud to announce that, out of 37 teams competing in the BRC Area 18 Winter Dressage,
the club were placed 8th and 22nd. What an excellent result!
Congratulations to Issy Manning, Suzi Douglas-Osborn and Christine O'Connor.
It was apparently quite an experience being in the Hartpury Arena, especially on a young horse!
Pats-on-the-back to the team placed 8th - Karen Richardson, Carole Hodgetts, Susanne Frank and Julia McDowell.

Wyvern RC Trophy 2008
The inaugural Wyvern Trophy for 2008 was won by Judith Cox and her (trusty?) steed Dillon.
Despite the usual baggage (full-time job, home etc.) Judith & Dillon attended every
WRC clinic that was arranged and had a go at every WRC and Mercian competition for which
they were eligible. Congratulations!

Mercian Teams - Quiz
The Mercia Teams Quiz night took place on 14th October at ‘The Royal Oak’ and, for the first time, Wyvern was one of the dozen teams taking part. Your Club was represented by Shirley Heath, Caroline Gudgeon, Jane Savage & Joy Starkey.
Other than 2 Equestrian rounds, the topics for each round were very diverse - from Games & Pastimes to Languages via TV & Film, Backing Groups, Capital Cities, Natural History, Nicknames and 'Pot Luck'.
The pressure came on at half-time when it was announced that Wyvern was in the lead (39/50). Over supper Worcester tried to nobble Wyvern by offering double G-and-T’s all round, but this was politely declined with the remark 'we actually perform better when drunk'.
Embarrassingly, the worst WRC results were in the equestrian rounds! But at least the team are better people now they know who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2008 (Denman), the number of bones in a horse’s vertebrae (53-56), the amount of hard feed that a med/large horse’s stomach can hold (5 lbs) and the sequence of footfalls for a left-lead gallop (don’t ask …) and a multitude of other horse-related questions.
Even though the team were pretty rubbish at the horsey questions they must have been pretty hot on all the rest since they still won the day with a finishing score of 74.5/100, squeaking just ahead of one of the Bromyard teams who finished on 72 and 3 teams that all finished on 70.
A fun and interesting evening was had by all and the pressure will truly be on next time because now there is a title to retain! And just in case you didn’t know, and it’s been worrying you, 'The Famous Flames' were the backing group for James Brown ...
Overall Quiz Results:
1st Wyvern (74.5)
2nd Bromyard Hawks (72)
3rd SSR 'Why Am I Here' (70)
4th Worcester Wizard (70)
5th Bromyard Eagles (60)
6th Bewdley (69)
7th Cropthorne Green (68.5)
8th Worcester Wonders (64)
9th Cropthorne Red (58.5)
10th SSR Hilly Billies (55.5)
11th Bromyard Kestrels (37)
